Certified 4-H adult volunteers stay in a separate cabin nearby. A bath house, with individual showers and bathroom facilities is conveniently located near each cabin unit.

The sandstone bluffs…The dells of the Wisconsin River….A private island.…Peanut Butter Mountain.
At Adventure Camp, youth in grades 7-12 will enjoy a variety of fun camp activities planned by Adventure Camp’s youth and adult staff.
Adventure: During camp, you will canoe, and possibly kayak, on the Wisconsin River. Day trips will include hiking on uneven terrain and swimming. There is a required swim test given at camp before campers can participate in any water activities. A lifeguard is present during all water activities.
Teamwork: You will be challenged to work well in teams throughout camp, whether on the low ropes challenge course, cooking group dinner on the camp stove, or paddling on the Wisconsin River.
Nature: You will experience the many natural wonders in and around camp, including the Upper Dells standstone cliffs and lush, green forests, the Wisconsin River, and Black Hawk Island (a state designated nature area). You will actively explore this natural world and have the opportunity to reflect on your role in preserving our environment for future generations. As part of the nature focus, you may have opportunities to study live raptors, reptiles, and amphibians, do nature-related art projects, go on a night hike with adult supervision.
Campfires: Finally, no 4-H Camp would be complete without enjoying nightly campfires, where you will be able to celebrate with music, skits, and entertainment. An added bonus of this small camp will be the opportunity to make delicious, fun snacks over the campfire.
Upham Woods 4-H Camp is an outdoor learning center located along the banks of the beautiful Wisconsin River. The camp is owned and operated by the Wisconsin 4-H program and offers cabins, a dining hall, numerous areas for indoor and outdoor learning. The dorms where the youth will be staying offer single beds for 10-12 campers, 1-2 youth staff and 1-2 adult volunteer staff. Idividual showers and bathroom facilities are located on each floor.
A dining hall is at the center of the grounds. All campers are served plentiful, nutritious, family style meals. A craft building, nature building, and multiple meeting rooms are available for indoor educational program or inclement weather.
An adult volunteer trained in first aid and CPR will accompany us to handle health and safety needs, and administer medications for youth under the age of 14. The Dells-Delton EMS Squad is ready to handle any emergencies. All campers are provided accident insurance.
The camp will be overseen by Paula Huff, Oconto County 4-H Youth Development Agent and Lisa Devine-Barribeau, Marinette County 4-H Youth Development Agent. The camp staff also will consist of two adult volunteers, three youth staff and one to two Upham Woods staff who together will serve as chaperones, role models, and activity directors for camp. All of the adult volunteers are enrolled 4-H leaders and have completed the youth protection process. All youth staff, ranging from age 15-19, have participated in a minimum of eight hours of training. Our ratio of campers to staff is three to one.
Adult 4-H Volunteers
We will have several positions for adult volunteers at camp. If you enjoy the outdoors, and working with youth in a facilitative, supportive manner, we’d love to have you fill out an application when the time comes.
We will need volunteers for both adventure camp and summer camp. Adventure camp will require more physical ability (hiking and canoeing long distances).
Counselors and Dishwashers
Our youth leaders tell us they learn all sorts of things about themselves and others in their role at camp. If you like being part of a team, working with younger kids, and planning for fun, this is the place for you.
Check back for camp brochures and more information as it becomes available.
